About

We have a great group of professors and middle school teachers who are a part of the Southwest Chicago Math Circle. In order to reach different teachers in the suburbs, we rotate meeting locations between Lewis University, Saint Xavier University, and Trinity Christian University.

This Math Circle provides the opportunity for 5-12 grade mathematics teachers and college professors in Chicago’s west and southwest suburbs to collaborate on developing and refining the problem-solving skills of local teachers and students. This community of learners will provide math instructors a supportive network to discuss mathematical and pedagogical issues that arise in the classroom and give teachers support and resources to initiate more student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogies in their classrooms. We also hope this math circle will help teachers rekindle their enjoyment and passion for solving interesting and challenging math problems in a supportive group environment.

Vision and Goals for The Southwest Chicago Math Circle:

  • Create a community of learners which encourages communication and collaboration between college professors and 5-12 grade math teachers.
  • Give math instructors a supportive network to discuss mathematical and pedagogical issues that arise in the classroom.
  • Help teachers develop their students’ problem-solving skills.
  • Give teachers the confidence, support and resources to initiate more student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogies in their classrooms.
  • Rekindle the enjoyment and passion for solving interesting and challenging math problems in a supportive group environment.
